P&O Young Explorers Advise on Finishing Touches to Pacific Explorer
P&O Cruises has made the final touches to its latest ship Pacific Explorer ahead of its launch next month – with a little help from a panel of four young holiday critics.
The children, all aged 10 years, were selected from more than 3500 entrants who applied to be a P&O Young Explorer, providing input on the activities, food, entertainment and design of the 77,000-tonne ship.
Degan Charman from New South Wales' Coffs Harbour, who was named the Young Adventurer for his love of watersports, tested all of Pacific Explorer's new onboard activities.
Meanwhile, Caitlin Leece from the Gold Coast reviewed the food; Lily Corliss from Caloundra in Queensland critiqued the entertainment and Juno Jones from Sydney assessed the proposed interior design of the ship.
The panel of Young Explorers spent a day onboard Pacific Dawn in Brisbane testing and providing feedback on a multitude of features earmarked for Sydney's latest cruise ship.
The team gave their unanimous seal of approval to the traditional Italian Neapolitan pizzas which will be served at 400 Gradi, a new family restaurant on Pacific Explorer which will be overseen by famed Melbourne chef Johnny Di Francesco. The pizza-master was the first Australian to be trained in Naples to the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana VPN rules and recently won the award for Best Pizza in the World.
In the wettest test for the Young Advisors, the children assessed Pacific Explorer's new Disco Diver waterslide and recommended that the music played inside be made louder to make the ride even more fun and heart stopping.
The Young Explorers also proposed that Pacific Explorer feature even more Australian live music performers throughout its bars and lounges and enjoyed a sneak peek of a contortionist's performance which will form part of the new production show ‘Love Riot' scheduled for the ship's exclusive supper club, Black Circus.
Pacific Explorer will reflect P&O's signature modern Australia look and feel, combining a relaxed and comfortable vibe with a striking contemporary design. According to The Young Explorers, the design of the public spaces onboard the ship will make guests "feel like millionaires."
P&O Cruises Director of Entertainment Brett Annable received the Young Explorers' recommendations and is confident that guests will be happy with their updates.
"Our four Young Explorers went wild on our waterslides, taste tested dishes from our new dining outlets, met designers and critiqued entertainers. Their feedback has been invaluable and has helped us make the final touches to Pacific Explorer before she arrives in Sydney in less than 50 days," Mr Annable said.
"The Pacific Explorer is a ship for all Australians including the young and young at heart so it made sense to ask some of our most important guests, the children, to work with us to create a great modern family holiday destination.
"Thanks to the input of our fun-loving holiday critics we're confident the experience onboard Pacific Explorer will have something for everyone. We all know if the kids are happy, so is everyone else! ," Mr Annable said.
